The Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation is hosting our County Wide “WellnessChallenge” this spring; it will run for the whole month of June. This annual event’s necessary re-branding has seen the “Vulcan County Wide Fitness Challenge” changed to “Vulcan County Wide Wellness Challenge.” This better reflects the broad range of health and wellness aspects emphasized in this event, with the end goal to improve our participants’ and our community’s overall health and wellness.
The event’s goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle by promoting regular physical activity, mental and emotional health, good nutrition, proper sleep, and secure social support networks.
The plan again is to have T-Shirts for each registered team member and individual. This allows participants to be easily recognizable and be “caught in motion” when addressing their physical health. Our watchdogs will assign bonus points to those “caught” physically active while wearing their T-shirts. Our committee will be working in conjunction with the Town of Vulcan Recreation Department to support many of their programs. And collectively, we will also be participating in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge. The Community Better Challenge provides the opportunity to not only win the top prize of $100,000 but additionally earn the title of Canada’s most active community. In 2021 we won the title of Alberta’s most active community. In 2022 our eyes are on the national title.
Participants pay a registration fee of $20.00. This is an increase over the past years, but with supply chain issues and overall rising costs, this increase was necessary in order to have quality shirts available. The back of the shirt is dedicated to identifying the Registration Sponsors of this event. We are incredibly grateful to all of the Sponsors of this event and to our many participants.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Event Sponsors $101-$500
As registration fees are low to remove participation cost barriers, we seek Sponsor support and/or assist with events costs.
We seek Sponsors to support specific events, such as the “Dark to Light” walk organized by the Suicide Prevention Committee and Vulcan Regional Victims Service. Donation of monies to help with the purchase of wind-resistant candles. Sponsorship would also help with the purchase of glow sticks for participants in the “Moonlight Glow Walk.”
Last year we added sidewalk chalk “Messages of Hope and Encouragement.” Assistance with providing chalk to all the towns and villages in the County is required.

Registration Sponsor $501 and up
We have a very ambitious goals for this event to find enough Sponsorship to cover our seniors’ registration costs. This would apply to any senior wishing to participate while living in long-term care or assisted living facilities in our community.
We additionally seek the Sponsorship to assist with children attending school in the County of Vulcan.
Even though this registration fee is on the low end of the scale, it can still be a barrier for some residents in our community. And we, as a committee, are hoping this barrier can be removed.
As mentioned in the letter you received earlier, there are approx. 100 senior residents and there are 722 students. We do not anticipate all to register, but we would like to see as many as possible. We believe that removing the financial barrier will help.
